Miss Teen eSoweto crowned in Moletsane

The pageant saw 13 contestants from the ages of 12 to 19 years representing their communities and exhibiting their attractiveness and public speaking ability.

Different areas around Soweto were well represented at the crowning of the first annual Miss Teen ESoweto Pageant 2024, held at Entokozweni Community Hall, Moletsane, on October 5.

Founder of Miss Teen ESoweto, Fikile Motaung, said: “I want to see more girls take part in this kind of pageant.

Sadly, several young girls have become victims of drugs, are affected by teenage pregnancy, or don’t value their lives.

Through these pageants, we instil the importance of discipline and respect.

“We also make sure that they know the importance of leadership.”

She said that throughout Miss Teen ESoweto’s journey, several seminars were organised to empower the young girls who are contesting to do good in their communities.

“This pageant, after all, is about more than just showing beauty.”

The ladies had the opportunity to wear and exhibit a local range of designer outfits from Keri’s Studio, which is owned by Kerileng Moloi from Mapetla.

The crowning of the Miss Teen ESoweto top four.

Crowned Miss Teen ESoweto 2024, 16-year-old Khanya Nkumbi, said she is excited for her new journey.

“I am still in disbelief because this is the first time I have participated in a beauty pageant. Winning has shocked me but also excites me,’’ said Nkumbi.

First runner-up, 15-year-old Boikanyo Manana, said she has learned so much through her journey in the pageant.

“I am honoured to have been a part of this project. I am also grateful for meeting my fellow contestants because I learned so much from each of them,’’ she said.
