Say no to abuse and drugs

ANC Women's League want to see change.

To help prevent the scourge of substance abuse and women and child abuse in the community, the African National Congress (ANC) Women’s League recently held a campaign.

The initiative was also aimed at tackling the issue of abuse of people living with disabilities.

The drive was held at the Central Western Jabavu Cross Roads area.

According to Chairperson of the ANC Women’s League, Manini Vilakazi, the Zone Nine women gathered to address residents on the issues that they see affecting the community the most.

“We are speaking to residents about alcohol and drug abuse because normally this is the root cause of the women and child abuse we see in our communities.

“Enough is enough, and we no longer want to see our children and fellow sisters become victims of pain.

“It is our hope that through such initiatives we can be able to reach out to our people so we can fight as one nation.”

Vilakazi said that they want the abuse cases to be reported and the issue of drug dealers to be dealt with as this is killing the future generations and partly the cause of all troubles the youth is facing today.

The ANC Women’s League was pleased with response of the residents and the interaction they had with them.

Resident Siphokazi Sithole said: “It makes us happy to see women helping out those that might be living in fear and in silence.

“We hope that this will help to motivate all those that are victims of abuse to go and report their cases or to seek help instead of blaming themselves.”
