Metro police recover hijacked vehicle and arrest one suspect in Emdeni

The JMPD have recovered a hijacked vehicle and arrested a suspect in possession of an unlicensed firearm by the Tactical Response Unit on August 28.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has reported significant success in their crime prevention efforts.

The JMPD’s Tactical Response Unit recovered a hijacked vehicle and arrested a suspect in possession of an unlicensed firearm on August 28, at Emdeni.

JMPD Spokesperson, Xolani Fihla said during a routine crime prevention operation, officers received a lookout alert from Tracker SA regarding a hijacked blue Volkswagen Golf five with Botswana registration plates.

The vehicle was reported hijacked in the Kagiso area and Tracker SA provided the last known location.

“JMPD officers promptly proceeded to the indicated location in Emdeni. Upon arrival the officers successfully spotted and intercepted the vehicle, apprehending one male suspect on the scene.

 

“The 26-year-old suspect was found in possession on an unlicensed firearm. In addition, another vehicle, a white Mercedes Benz- C-Class which was used in the commission of the crime was also recovered,” said Fihla.

Police also seize this firearm.

Fihla further stated that the suspect was detained at Naledi SAPS. The officers displayed exemplary teamwork and coordination with Tracker SA and SAPS Johannesburg District CCU during the operation.

Fihla concluded by saying the JMPD remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. Their ongoing collaboration with various law enforcement agencies and community partners has proven vital in their effort to combat crime and protect the public.
