13-year-old boy drowns at Power Park

Search and rescue operation leads to discovery of the body.

A 13 year old boy has reportedly died after drowning at Power Park in Orlando.

The incident is reportedly happened on the evening of Saturday, August 31.

City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) launched a search and rescue operation on Sunday morning and the body of the boy was retrieved.

Circumstances which led to the drowning of the boy are still unknown.

The incident was reported to the local police and an investigation has been launched.

“Spring time is upon us, EMS would like to caution residents of Johannesburg to please safeguard children during this season,” said Khumalo.

“Please ensure that children do not approach abondoned buildings that are submerged in water and refrain from swimming in dams, lakes and swimming pools unsupervised.”
