Hailstorm leaves people spending money on repairs

Hail storm causes massive damage.

Democratic Alliance’s local activist Masesi Sekolo said the heavy hail storm last Thursday has left many people struggling.

Some people have been left homeless, their precast walls destroyed, windows shattered, roofs blown away and shacks totally demolished.

Sekolo said the DA is doing all it can to help some of the affected families by providing corrugated iron among other things.

She said families of the 12 shacks in Doornkop Block 12 which were destroyed by the heavy rain two weeks back faced the same problem again.

“A shack is not a fit shelter to stay in because during rainy seasons people always worry about the level of safety of both parents and their children.

She said ”Health and food security are also a concern since after the rain most residents are left stranded and starving”.
