Zwino Youth Skills Development shines in Pimville

They will receive leadership mentoring and stay involved with ZwinoG projects through to high school and beyond.

Zwino Generation (ZwinoG) recently introduced its nine Brand Ambassadors, representing the Zwino Youth Skills Development Project (ZYSDP) in Pimville.

This follows a successful nine day Youth Skills Programme which began on June 18 to support Grade 7 learners transitioning to high school.

The programme included lessons, activities and extra murals addressing issues like play deprivation, moral values, mental health and more.

ZwinoG is the organisation behind ZYSDP and is aimed at equipping South African young people, especially the youth of Soweto with diverse skills.

Its mission is to develop, guide and empower young people with a focus on moral ethics and values.

ZwinoG also runs various other projects, including talent scouting, artist management and event management.

Of the nine Brand Ambassadors, eight come from Mdelwa Hlongwane Primary School and one comes from Nkholi Primary School.

They will receive leadership mentoring and stay involved with ZwinoG projects through to high school and beyond.

Emelda Khumalo of the ZYSDP responsible for the whole project highlighted some of the activities from the programme.

“At our venue the learners were equally excited as they recap on the various eventful activities, joy was in the air!

“The level of understanding of the learners was amazing. They were actively participating in class and eager to explore even the mental health aspects of psychology,” said Khumalo.

Learners were also thrilled during the meet and greet session, especially when they received some treats from sponsor, Badat’s Wholesalers.

The sessions sparked excitement, with one Grade 4 learner entertaining the class with a spontaneous dance performance.

Mohamed Raffic Badat of the Badat’s Wholesalers said, “This is a wonderful project which the youth needs as it brings back basic morals and ethics into the community.

“It is much needed, especially in a world where God has no permanency and has been struck off the equation. It is commendable that Zwino Youth Skills Development Project is trying to bring back what is most needed and I wish them all the best.”

Badat added that they were excited to have partnered with ZwinoG in this uplifting initiative and were looking forward to more collaboration in future.

“By offering educational and recreational activities, it helps reduce social ills such as teenage pregnancy and substance abuse,” added Badat.

Pimville Community Centre Manager, Carlos Magaia also praised the programme for instilling self-discipline and positive mindset changes to the youth.

“The Zwino Youth Skills Development Project is an important leadership programme that keeps children off the streets, especially during school holidays,” said Magaia.

“With its unique educational and recreational activities, it helps reduce teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, and social ills by instilling self-discipline and fostering positive mindset changes. We thank Emelda Khumalo for her excellent contribution; she is truly an agent of change in our community.”
