Emshukantambo Secondary celebrates excellence at academic awards

Many learners were excited, especially those who have been consistent winners over the years.

Emshukantambo Secondary School hosted their annual academic awards to honour top achievers on August 5.

These awards aim to further encourage learners who have been doing well to continuously do so and to also give motivation to those who are still trying to find their feet academically.

Pule Hlahane the school’s English teacher expressed his excitement about a lot of learners getting awards for English and gave words of advice to those who did not get awards.

“I am so excited and thrilled particularly from Grade 8 throughout to Grade 12, it means there is something we are doing right as a department.

“Learners who didn’t get awards but were looking forward to that should not give up because as you heard with the Grade 12s, we have started this thing of awarding them simply because they have improved,” said Hlahane.

“These are learners who have not necessarily gotten 70s and 80s but have moved from 30 to 40%. Now we are going to make sure it doesn’t stay in Grade 12 only but moves to all the other grades.”

Learners from all grades had the opportunity to participate in the awards ceremony which recognised excellence in every subject offered at the school. Many learners were excited, especially those who have been consistent winners over the years.

Sinesipho Ndlovu, a Grade 11 learner who got seven certificates said, “I am so excited and proud of myself and my classmates.

“I feel very empowered especially because I also got a certificate for Mathematics and it’s not such a good percentage, but hey it’s Mathematics so I’m just happy I got an award for it.”

These young hard workers graced the school’s stage with pride and joy.

Another Grade 11 learner who scored herself seven certificates and more other awards, Nqobile Ndlela shared her excitement about this achievement and spoke about her future plans.

“I am so happy because I didn’t expect to receive these many awards, especially after my performance dropped between the first and second term.

“I want to keep achieving more, earn a bursary and get accepted into university to study Chartered Accounting,” said Ndlela.
