DA Shadow MMC for Housing in the city of Johannesburg councillor Tsepo Mhlongo accuses the African National Congress (ANC) of failing the people of Tshepisong with regards to service delivery.

DA Shadow MMC for Housing in the city of Johannesburg councillor Tsepo Mhlongo accuses the African National Congress (ANC) of failing the people of Tshepisong with regards to service delivery.

Mhlongo said this as a result of the riot protest that took place in Tshepisong.

According to information issued by the Mhlongo, it is said that the frustration shown by Tshepisong residents on October 15 was as a direct result of poor consultation and false promises.

It was said in the information that the ANC governed Johannesburg municipality is one of the worst performing municipalities especially on housing delivery.

Mhlongo said it was very clear that the Joburg municipality is failing to deliver proper services and fulfil their promises to residents.

Mhlongo said” The protest is a clear sign that the municipality is failing the people of Tshepisong because if not so, the protest wouldn’t have happened.

Councillor of ward 128 Zama Ngcayi said the protest was caused by thieves who stole an electrical cable that left ward 127 of Leratong in the dark.

Ngcayi said this was the primary cause of the protest.

This also led to residents burning down a municipal office and a vehicle.

“In the interim, Eskom and City Power provided residents with a generator machine to replace the stolen cables.

He said” It is not a question of unemployment because we have projects that are currently running such as Operation Gcin’amanzi and Soweto Infrastructure Upgrade and Rehabilitation Project.

The situation in Tshepisong is now calm.
