We are available everyday – Youth Desk

Residents unhappy with local Youth Desk.

Young people in areas affiliated to Moroka Police Station are disappointed about the services they receive from the station’s Youth Desk.

Motsamai Lethama alleges the youth desk is not transparent and there is no any community engagement projects they host with the youth in all the areas they serve.

“I’ve been in the youth desk office many times and I’ve left that office with no answer to the services that I need, they don’t even have applications forms to start with and how do we join them if they don’t have that.

“So all we need is to be part of the station and help fight crime.”

Mpho Radebe said: “Going to the Youth Desk at Moroka Police Station is more like going to a show ground.

“You can be in that office for more than 10 minutes without getting assistance or being attended because they all be minding their own personal issues instead of serving us as youth.”

The Youth Desk chairperson Lebo Matome dismissed allegations against her office saying they are transparent and only faced with small crisis.

“I dismiss all the allegations because as Youth Desk we do have projects that we host targeting young people in the areas we are based.

“Last year alone, we hosted more than 10 workshops and interactive campaigns and we did receive a positive respond regarding that event.”

Matome said: “On March 17 we also have a domestic violence and sexual offence campaign and the main event will be at Homemakers on March 21 and all youth in our areas are invited to come.”

For more information, Matome urged youth to contact the communication office on 011 527 0000.
