'We want to end electricity theft'

Eskom joins forces with SAPS, JMPD, Talk Radio 702 and CPF to fight cable theft.

Eskom has recently announced that it has joined forces with the South African Police Services (SAPS), Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), 702 Talk Radio and Community Patrollers to help them fight Crime against electricity cable theft.

Residents are urged to work hand in hand with these organisations and Eskom in the fight against cable theft.

Eskom senior manager Daphney Mokoena said that the merge has produced great results and they are hoping for a positive sustenance of it.

Mokoena said that there are still more people to be punished for cable theft.

“Cable theft has been giving us a major problem and as a results it sets us back and hinders our plan for great service delivery to our loyal consumers and most importantly pinches us hard in our pocket.

“But that won’t stop us from hoping to improve our services and making electricity supply efficient, so far since the cold season most people have been arrested for stealing cables and causing electricity cuts.

“We are still hoping that the remaining ones in our society will also be punished, we are sick and tired of such people who make living by stealing Eskom equipment.”

Mokoena urges other residents to join the fight against cable theft in t heir areas.

“We know who exactly are cable thieves in our areas, these are people that we live with, eat with, sleep with and play with and yet we keep mute about exposing them, so we must work together as residents and make sure that we expose and punish such people for their actions.”
