Man of action stands up and helps his people

Chiawelo Ward 12 Councillor Joe Nemaungani left his warm house and braved the cold weather and heavy rains to inspect and support families who had their property destroyed by the heavy rain last Saturday.

Chiawelo Ward 12 Councillor Joe Nemaungani left his warm house and braved the cold weather and heavy rains to inspect and support families who had their property destroyed by the heavy rain last Saturday.

Nemaungani promised those affected that he will do anything to make sure that they live happy, safe and healthy lives with nothing worrying them.

One of the residents Betty Baadjies whose furniture was damaged by rain was overjoyed after seeing the councillor entering her house.

“This is the first time I see the man called my councillor in my house, I’m so happy because he didn’t sit at his house, but he came to hear to our complaints and promised to help.

“This surely makes me relax because there is hope of having the problem we are faced with fixed and I hope he will keep his promise.”

Another resident, Mpho Mokoena said: “We as people tend to always complain about our councillors not doing enough to help us or to develop our areas, forgetting that they’re not the ones who make the final decision.

“I personally had a problem with our councillor, but after checking the developments he has brought so far I can tell he is trying, we now have paved walking sites, tarred roads, streets lights, new parks and recently our community wall was renovated.”

Nemaungani said: “I’m not and I was not voted to be the councillor to just sit down and enjoy my fat cheque, I’m voted to be called 24/7 and woken up at night to serve my people and make sure that they are enjoying their daily lives.

“So criticism will always be there, but that’s not my focus, my focus is to be the ear and eye for my people and make sure that the government does deliver and improve their lives and areas without fail,” he said.

Nemaungani said his office is open every day for any interactions with residents regarding any issue that they might need assistance.
