Family live under police supervision

A family in Mapetla is living in fear and under the 24/7 protection of the police after some residents threatened to burn down their house.

The came after a suspect who is a family friend stabbed a victim to death after a misunderstanding over a girlfriend in the street.

It is alleged that friends of the victim and a few residents last Friday set out to set the suspect’s family house alight in a revenge attack and this prompted police to organise 24/7 supervision.

Moroka Police station communications manager John Serala said in everything life threatening situation there will always be police to protect.

“When it comes to keeping peace and making sure that everyone is safe, we will always patrol, place marked vehicles and be available at any scene.

“So arson is a serious case that we don’t take lightly, as soon as we received a tip off about what was about to happen to that particular family we had to rush there and make sure no one is hurt and the house hasn’t been burned.

“We do understand that the frustration and pain friends of the victim are having at the moment, but they cannot take the law into their hands, they must allow the law to take its course,” he said.
