Foundation donates sanitary pads to Emshukantambo Secondary School learners

Through their mission to keep young girls at school, they donated sanitary towels to the learners to end period poverty in township schools.

Period poverty is a social and health issue affecting young girls especially in low income communities who lack access to menstrual products. This in turn affects their education as they turn to miss school when they are in their cycles.

Mpho Mdluli Kena Foundation Co-ordinator said, “Investing in providing sanitary towels for girls is crucial because it ensures they can attend school regularly, maintain their dignity, and focus on their education without interruption or discomfort. As Kena Foundation, we want to empower girls to reach their full potential.”

They are dedicated to uplifting previously disadvantaged communities through tackling systemic inequalities, empowering individuals, and fostering sustainable development.

In March, they collaborated with the school and teaching staff, where they identified 50 learners who were in need of school shoes.

“We came back to the school as we aim to foster the needs and education of the youth. We want to work hard to ensure that they stay empowered in remembering the validation of their dreams,” Mdluli explained.
