ALX aims to provide tech skills to young people

About 400 students attended the ALX Opportunities Expo which was organised in collaboration with different schools around Soweto.

On February 16, African Leadership Academy (ALX) hosted the ALX Opportunities Expo so as to unveil exciting opportunities for personal and professional growth to young people at the New Hope international Ministries in Zola.

ALX South Africa is part of Sand Technologies which provides tech business skills training to young people across the continent.

ALX recruitment manager, Vatiswa Gallivan said their goal is to provide tech skills training to two million youth throughout the continent by 2030.

“What we have been experiencing especially in the South African market is the high rate of unemployment.

“We know that young people lack tech skills training because of the broad gap we have when it comes to digital skills training and as ALX that’s the gap we are trying to help bridge,” said Gallivan.

About 400 students attended the ALX Opportunities Expo which was organised in collaboration with different schools around Soweto.

The aim was to raise awareness of the various prospects that tech skills can present to young people.

“What opportunities can tech skills unlock for South Africa’s young people, and what influence will it have on their future? These are some of the questions we are attempting to address on today’s programme,” explained Gallivan.

Gallivan added that ALX welcomes collaboration from any organisation that works with young people, whether it is a NPO, NGO, or NPC, as they feel this will enable them to reach a wider audience and more readily disseminate the word about digital skills.

Speaking to Urban News, ALX graduate, Khansani Seleka said she has never had any difficulties as an ALX student because the organisation has always been there for her at all times.

“ALX Africa has helped me transform my career and achieve my goals. I have also learned a lot when it comes tech skills and now I’m currently preparing for my data and science course with ALX Africa,” said Seleka.
