Grade 11 learner stabbed to death in Protea North

“After the deceased left the school premises, the suspected gang members pursued him and one of them grabbed his hat."

17-year-old, Lerato Nchabeng was stabbed to death outside Reasoma Secondary School in Protea North on February 12.

An eye witness who witnesses the incident said the Grade 11 learner was killed after a fight broke out between him and an alleged gang member who wanted to take his hat.

“After the deceased left the school premises, the suspected gang members pursued him and one of them grabbed his hat.

“There was a fight and a short while later, I saw the boy who had taken the deceased’s hat pull out a knife and stab Lerato in the neck.

“He then pushed him and he fell on the ground and the gang fled,” said the eye witness who wanted to remain anonymous.

He added that the scene was covered in blood, and although they begged the teachers for assistance, none of them were willing to save the deceased at the time.

Speaking to Urban News, the mother of the deceased, Palesa Nchabeng said she’s going through an unbearable pain since losing a child in that manner is extremely painful.

“My son’s passing has left a horrible scar on my family, we didn’t anticipate this. I pray that justice will be served and that all the gang members who attacked him will be apprehended,” said Nchabeng.

Lerato Nchabeng will be laid to rest on Saturday, January 24, with the funeral service starting at 7:00am at Protea Glen Community Hall.
