SSA in partnership with Gauteng Provincial Government launched this campaign as part of the women’s month celebrations.

The campaign served to communicate SSA’s message of water safety and education to Gauteng’s local communities. This event outlined the need to support women in aquatics.

SSA and GPG have identified the development needs to be established at grass root level, for sustainability and transformation in different kinds of sport. The support and partnership enabled SSA to effectively communicate this message to women and children in for this year’s Women’s month celebrations.

This year the participation of young women increased by 25%. Another activity which was run during the campaign included a workshop put to the development of young swimmers from four development clubs. It contributed in motivating those who are still at grass root level of aquatics.

The workshop was intended to attract young girl swimmers, swimming instructors, water safety presenter sport development officers, woman development enthusiasts, Gauteng affiliates and SSA Sport Administrators.

Invited guests included female coaches, former female swimmers, parents and motivational speakers. It was identified that the current state of swimming clubs and shortage of women coaches and administrators has indicated that there is an urgent need for the inclusion of more African women in aquatic sport clubs.
