Miss Curvylicious second runner-up for 2023, Nondlala Tyakathe has hit the ground running following her crowning at the State Theater in Pretoria.

Exactly a month into her win, she has undertaken to engage and work alongside local organisations in Kagiso and surrounding areas dedicated towards people living with disabilities and special needs.

This is one of the few priority areas she will be focusing on during her time of reign.

“This is one of the areas that often go unnoticed and neglected so I feel like we are not doing enough for them.

“Basic things like public transport is a challenge, so I want to be able to change that, creating awareness to the various and complex challenges that face these side-lined groups and organisations but also to honour the work that they do in the community,” she explained.

Tyakathe who is a WestSide FM radio presenter by profession, previously told Urban News that she entered the competition to drive the message on body positivity further.

This was the first pageant entry for the 38-year-old who said she still could not believe her success at the competition.

“This was also top of my agenda, reaching out to boys and young men. I intend to serve my time advocating for change and as we commemorate 16 days of activism, I am reminded that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done to support and mentor the boy child as well as single mothers raising a boy child.

“This is critical if we want to win the war against the surge of violence that continues to affect women and children.”

She concluded that she was excited that plans were in the works for her to go to Africa to represent South Africa’s plus size women.

“I am excited for what awaits. As big bodied women, we face a lot of body shaming for our body shapes and size but this platform has empowered me to be confident and bold in my own skin and advocate for more plus size people to get to a place where they feel no shame. The opportunity to be able to take this message into different countries will be a true blessing.”
