Patriotic Alliance’s 10th birthday celebration total fail

The PA has contested in various Local Government Elections (LGE) and has been part of municipal coalition governments across the country, including in the City of Johannesburg.

The Patriotic Alliance (PA) attempted to fill Orlando Stadium with an effort to celebrate their 10th birthday on November 26.

The event which saw supporters and members of the party all the way from Western Cape and other parts of Soweto was to celebrate the founding of the party in 2013 by its president, Gayton Mckenzie and other leaders.

The PA has contested in various Local Government Elections (LGE) and has been part of municipal coalition governments across the country, including in the City of Johannesburg.

The party motion did not turn out as planned as fewer of their 5, 000 supporters failed to fill the 25, 000 capacity stadium.

In a media briefing held before the celebration, PA president, Mckenzie assured members of the media that they will fill the stadium to its full capacity with their theme #Abahambe, as they are making an effort to get illegal migrants deported and close down all foreign owned unregistered and noncompliant businesses.

Things did not go according to the party’s plans as members and supporters who showed up could not fill the Orlando Stadium.

Some of the attendees took to social media to complain about the disorganised event which had them spend hours waiting for Mckenzie’s address with no food and water.

Presidents Mckenzie, also took to social media to own up to the party’s mistakes and apologised to his supporters.

”I am sad for all of you and I understand the anger and disappointment. People were left stranded in busses on the road while others were on the highway waiting for the mechanics.

“I am not blaming anyone, I am taking full responsibility as I have let most of you down terribly. I am not looking for sympathy but you have my word that we will fix this and make it right as many lessons were learnt and we got more wrong than we got right,” Mckenzie wrote.

“The birthday of this glorious party can’t be what we did, we will have our real party within 90 days. I have nothing but gratitude for those who stood and braced the hunger and heat. I have no words, only tears and gratitude.

“I have not asked you for much but today I am asking you to give us a chance to fix this mess. We should not be arrogant; we should be humble and take full responsibility.”
