Councillors go on a service delivery inspection

Councillors urge residents to work with the police and the CPF to fight crime.

All zones 10 Councillors which includes Diepkloof, Orlando and Noordgesig (ward 26-31) went on a service delivery inspection last Thursday.

They visited Diepkloof Hospice, Orlando Clinic, Orlando Police Station and Orlando Hospice.

Ward 30 Councillor Sechaba Khumalo said he was impressed with the basic running of Orlando Clinic. He said that he was also particularly impressed with the integration system that has been put in place.

In the past patients were grouped according to their illnesses when visiting the clinic. According to Khumalo this caused patients to feel exposed and some would no longer go to the clinic to collect their medication.

“We are proud of how the clincic has been strict in implementing the integration system. No one should feel uncormfortable and out of place when they visit the clinic,” he said.

Khumalo said the visit to Orlando Police Station was a much needed one as they has been an increase in crime.

One of the crimes that have shown an increase is murder. Khumalo said that one person’s death is one too many. He said that they is a mistrust between the police and the community.

“Residents feel that when they report certain crimes they are leaked. Residents no longer feel safe to report crimes. We are going to hold the Station Commander personally accountable for such actions,” he said.

He also urged residents to work with the police and the CPF to fight crime.

The councillors also visited Footprints Hospice in Orlando East. Khumalo said that he was very impressed with the running of the hospice. “We as the community must keep on supporting the hospice as they are doing an honorable job,” he said.
