CIT security officer charged with murder for allegedly shooting a person at Jabulani Mall

A 33-year-old men was shot dead at Jabulani Mall during a scuffle with a security guard.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that they are investigating both murder and attempted robbery cases following a shooting incident at Jabulani Mall, Soweto.

A security officer was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after he fatally shot and killed a civilian in a scuffle.

It is alleged that the civilian tried to disarm the cash-in-transit security guard, during which the security guard’s firearm went off.

“It is reported that the security officer was on duty loading money in an ATM when he requested patrons queuing at the ATM to make a safe way for him but one of them refused and this led to a scuffle between the two.

“In the process, the trigger of the firearm was pulled, and the bullet hit the patron,” said Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.

The victim, aged 33 years old sustained injuries to the upper body and was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

The security officer is expected to appear before the Protea Magistrate’s Court.
