It is all systems go for the massive weekend that will usher in the warm weather with the annual sixth Soweto Kota Festival this coming weekend at the iconic Soweto Cricket Oval in Rockville.

Whether you call it Kota, Sephatlo or Skhambane, the two-day festival on September 2 and 3 will celebrate the South African popular street food, in what promises to be a culinary and cultural heritage experience for locals.

The popular festival offers festival-goers an extraordinary fusion of flavours, feel-good entertainment, great company surrounded by friends and family.

The event is set to captivate the hearts of South Africans with the food they love, delivering on dozens of stalls offering their flavourful and mouth-watering take on the kasi staple in a true showcase of tradition and modernity.

The event organisers said about 70% of the tickets have been sold out.

“We are super excited that we get to bring the festival back to our people. The festival has gotten bigger and bigger with every year and we are expecting the number to grow again this year.

“We are looking forward to hosting more than 10 000 people over the two days,” said founder, Sidwell Tshingilane, during the launch of the festival earlier this month.

“The Kota festival is a family event and it brings everyone together.

“Throughout the festival weekend, there is something for every member of the family from the kid’s entertainment to the different offerings for our grown audience and the exciting food available on the day.”

Meanwhile Amapiano artist, Sir Thrill has been announced as one of the main acts for the festival.

Tshingilane promised festival-goers that the entertainment selection will be a celebration of local and home grown talent.
