Charity golf day raises funds for CHOC

The charity event had an art auction of original artwork valued at R160 000. All the proceeds were donated to CHOC.

Minestar joined forces with Red Sol Events to host a charity golf day to raise funds for the Childhood Cancer Foundation (CHOC) on July 21.

The event at Glendower Golf Club saw good community support.

Organiser Blanche Magua, the sister of Minestar’s Nicholas Magua, said their motivation to organise the golf day came from their personal experiences with cancer.

Their mother was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and recently completed her chemotherapy to defeat it.

Grateful for her recovery, they decided to give back to the community by supporting a cause that helped children facing similar challenges.

Their goal was to raise R500 000.

“We had a good turnout. We sold all our holes except for one that was a donation.

“We also have art we will auction, one original worth about R160 000 and two reprints worth R15 000 from Scapegoat Gallery,” said Blanche.

CHOC’s Lizelle Denkema said, “We are thankful to Minestar and Nick Magua for organising the golf day in aid of CHOC, choosing to partner with us, and making a difference in the lives of children with cancer and life-threatening blood disorders.”

The organisation is a home away from home for children and their caregivers who come from rural areas and must stay close to the paediatric oncology wards.
