Ward Committee members enquire about Naledi clinic construction

"Enquiring about the development and construction of the health center will help us bring verified feedback to the residents."

Ward Committee members of Ward 14 visited the clinic construction site at Naledi to check on the progress of the project.

They engaged with the Community Liaison Officer (CLO) who gave then an update on the project.

Ward Committee member, Abie Lebelo said as the representatives of Ward 14 they organised a meeting so as to enquire about the completion of the new clinic, who will be responsible for employment and also the SMEs involved in the project.

“The community has been receiving inaccurate information about this clinic. So us being here today and enquiring about the development and construction of the health centre will help us bring verified feedback to the residents,” said Lebelo.

The CLO, Lucky Mhlanga explained that they have ten SMEs and currently five of them are working, two are done with their scope of work and the other three haven’t started working yet. He also explained to the committee members that the project has employed 43 people locally.

“Skills development participants will be formally trained and they will receive SETA accredited certificates. There is a budget for a skills development programme however we haven’t received any information regarding the roll-out of the budget,” said Mhlanga.

He added that the value of the project was 39 million and as a company they have given back to the community by providing 15 2 way radios for the patrollers.

In addition, the City of Johannesburg Health Department will be the one responsible for employment after the completion of the clinic which is expected to be in September.

“At the moment I am not really satisfied about the information we have received today. What we wanted to do was to get inside the construction site and do an inspection but we couldn’t due to reasons stated by the CLO,” said Ward Committee for Health, Ntombi Zantsi.
