Fat Cats Athletic Club will be hosting the fifth instalment of the Fat Cats 10K Race.

The race, affectionately known as #arunforthewholefamily is happening on Sunday, October 8.

The fifth edition of the #arunforthewholefamily is a special one for the runners as it also coincides with the club’s 20th anniversary since its founding.

Fat Cats 10K Race Director, Cindy Nkomo, said the club is excited about this year’s race, not only because it will bring people together but also because it will mark the addition of new innovations to the event.

“In living to the race’s tag line, ‘a run for the whole family’, our focus is on creating a race that not only gives each member of the family a distance to test and challenge themselves over, but also brings the entire family together over childhood games,” explained Nkomo.

“We want participants to leave the race with a sense of unity and deeper connection. We have also upgraded the 5km fun run to a timed race with a total prize money of R2 400.”

Families are encouraged to register and run together, choosing between 10KM, 5KM, Kitten Miller, and Nappy Dash categories. This year’s race is expected to bring a host of fun activities for the whole family throughout the day. All activities will be streamed on the club’s social media pages.

“All entries received online and before the closing date will receive a Fat Cats souvenir – something to remember us by long after the race has passed.

“We therefore encourage runners to register early and we thank our various partners and sponsors, i.e., Mall of Africa, Genesis Corporate Solutions and Tifosi Sports, who have come on board to ensure that the race becomes a success,” continued Nkomo.

Fat Cats Athletic Club boasts various other social sporting codes apart from running and was founded in 2003.

This year it is celebrating 20 years of keeping members fit while also socialising in a positive way that has changed many lives across the continent.

Initiatives run under the Fat Cats CSI have taken various shapes including school and university bursaries, school uniform donations, donations to homes and other charity organisations, donations of sports equipment to individuals and clubs, as well as coaching and mentoring opportunities for youngsters from disadvantaged communities.

Registration for the race is open on www.fatcats.africa
