Community forum renovates school

Emndeni residents volunteer to make school furniture better.

The Emndeni Community Forum kicked off their school rejuvenation project at Khulani Primary School in Emndeni last week Saturday.

The rejuvenation programme involves fixing tables, varnishing tables, repairing chairs, cutting grass and performing general maintenance.

The striking thing about this group of individuals is that they’re doing all of this for free, and they source the material they work with themselves.

The chairperson of the forum says that they are committed at making positive change regardless of what they get in return.

“If we want our nation to grow we should start with the young one and feed them with food for life and the source of this food is education.

“So we believe start improving educational conditions is a small portion of the bigger picture and that small portion will definitely make a difference,” said Sipho Khumalo.

According to Khumalo, the project is intended to be introduced to other schools and their ultimate goals is to make sure that schools in Emndeni are in good condition for pupils.

School principal Poline Ngemane says some of the people involved in the project were part of the school many years ago so she is grateful that the forum is giving back to both the community and the school.
