Class of 2013 awarded for good work

Hard work pays off for class of 2013.

The Department of Correctional Services and the Department of Education hosted a matric award ceremony last week Sunday.

The event hosted at the Naledi Hall was aimed at showing appreciation and motivation to the class of 2013 and to encourage the current matric class of 2014.

With schools from Zola, Zondi, Naledi, Tladi and Moletsane in attendance the ceremony rewarded schools based on their overall academic performance.

Minister Sibusiso Ndebele said that the greatest gift a nation can give to a child is education, coting a phrase that said:

The schools which received awards included Pace, Aurora, Bukulani, Dr Vilakazi, Thomas Mofolo Secondary and Naledi Secondary.

“A house cleaner can be a parent of a president if the child gets an education,” Ndebele said.

Zakhele Kunene who is head of department at Dr Vilakazi High said that receiving an award comes as a token of appreciation for a good job done during the past year, but challenges are still to come.

“The Grade 11 class from last year who are currently in matric are going to be a tough group to handle.

“There are pupils who did not perform that well and they are going to struggle in matric, but we will do all that is in our power to assist them,” Kunene said.

Matete Mokuba is in her matric year at Thomas Mofolo and said that the one thing she picked up from attending the event is that hard work pays off even if it may not seem that way at the beginning.
