Miss Soweto Secondary welcomes new applicants

The annual event which brings together thousands of teenagers to compete for the title Miss Soweto Secondary.

The founder of Miss Secondary Soweto, Kabelo Modisane is inviting local girls living in Soweto and surrounding areas to join their upcoming beauty pageant.

The annual event which brings together thousands of teenagers to compete for the title Miss Soweto Secondary ambassador and being the voice of teenagers in the area welcomes participants between the ages of 15 to 21 to join in the competition.

The finale of event will take place in Soweto Theater.

“Our goal is to empower a girl child to look beyond their current living circumstances because teenage girls are the women of our future and as a society the way we treat them today will definitely contribute to the decisions they make tomorrow.

“The Miss Soweto Secondary pageant has one aim – helping to develop young girls intellectually and socially so that they are outspoken enough to stand for what they want in the future,” Modisane said.

She added that as a beauty queen herself, she has seen what such events do to the confidence of the participants.

“What we want to do is to give exposure to those with a passion for modelling.

“We want our pageant to be the starting point of their modelling career and by giving them the good exposure and skills we would know that we have done well for our community and therefore changed their lives positively.”

The winners of the competition will receive prizes from various sponsors including a queen size bed from Furniture Mart, school uniform from Lapeng Funeral Service and a bursary from Greenville College.

“Knowledge is power and this is what we want for our participants, to make their lives in the industry easy and assure them that there are opportunities they can look forward to.”

The semi-finals of the competition will take place at Uncle’s Toms Hall in Orlando West on June 10 with the finale taking place at Soweto Theatre on August 19.
