“We scooped quite a significant number of medals and that landed our athletes a spot at the Gauteng Championships,” said sensei Thabo Molubi of Kofukan Gauteng Karate Academy.

He added that his athletes are the reigning champions in South Africa as whole and that shows that they have a good competition in Gauteng.

“We entered 20 athletes in total and won a total of 22 medals. Seven gold medals, four silver medals and 11 bronze medals.

“This is a biggest achievement to start a year. Our Team, kata girls Karabo, Holla and Karabelo scooped gold medals for their performance.”

Holla Rangongo was the most shining athlete of the day and scooped three gold medals. She also dominated her kata division and came first and later scooped another gold medal on her kumite division.

A cherry on top was a gold medal win with her Team Kata teammates, Karabo and Karabelo Maduna.

“Karabo Maduna registered a gold medal on her kumite division as well by fighting like a lioness.

“Another karateka, Marlene Visagie rose to the occasion as well and scooped a gold medal on her kumite division.
