Intense joy as Soweto learners return to school

Parents and guardians at Ditawana Primary School came in numbers to witness as their children return to the classrooms on January 11.

With great excitement filled in the school premises, Ditawana Primary School management was proud to welcome new learners to the school, especially those in foundation phase.

Thabang Ngwenya is ready for his first day in grade three.

According to the school head of department for foundation phase, Eunice Molosioa, the school produced an overall of 98% pass rate in 2022 and they hope this will serve as enough evidence to parents that they have the learners’ best interest at heart.

“We are ready to hit the ground running this year as well as to ensure that our learners are up to date with their academics.

“The school also has a plan in place for extra mural activities and trips for the learners to discover themselves out of the classrooms,” Molosioa said.

Member of the SGB and parent, Keamogetswe Phoshoko said they were happy to welcome learners and teachers back to school.

On behalf of the SGB, Phoshoko expressed sincere appreciation to parents of the new learners for being there to witness as their children take this new and vital step of their lives.

Even though some of the new students were nervous on their first day, the school management was there to reassure them that they were in good hands.

“We are overwhelmed by the support of the parents.

Members of the school governing body, Petrus Malunga, Keamogetswe Phoshoko and Lufuno Mokotla welcome new learners at the schcool.

“This gives us an assurance that indeed education is a three legged pot with each leg belonging to the learner, parents and the school.

“Today our local parents have showed us that they are willing to work with the school for 2023 academic year as well as to lay a good foundation for the future of the learners,” Phoshoko said.

She added that although they have several challenges that they face as a school with learners with special needs who are not yet enrolled in special schools, the school however has several extra learning classes for learners who may take time to grasp the curriculum.

Ofentse Khuse is excited to start Grade RR at Ditawana Primary School.

Parents also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the school for going an extra mile and for the pass rate of 2022.

One parent, Ntombikho Mkhaba said going forward, they will work with the school to ensure there is progression in the education of their children.

“This the foundation of the future of our children and for them to have a bright future we should be active in their education as parents, work with the school and be there every step of the way because this will teach us to step up when they go to the secondary level of their education,” Mkhaba said.
