According to the Obaratile Christmas Celebration team, orphans are close to their hearts and their aim is to spread love across local homes and orphanages.

She describes the late Mnweba as the inspiration behind the organisation.

“Today we are remembering all the good work she has taught us. She was a giving and accommodative person who went above and beyond to ensure that those around her are taken care of and that they don’t lack anything. So today we are here to ensure that her legacy lives on,” Morare-Makakase said.

She added that they are hoping to reach more orphanages and hopefully expand internationally in the future.

“We are aiming to make this an annual celebration, with this being our first. This is a huge milestone for us and we call on sponsors and stakeholders who would like to join us in making Christmas memorable to these children.”

Orlando Children’s Home social worker, Keke Stephen said they are lucky to have received the visit and it warms their hearts to see how happy the children are.

“The happiness on their little faces says it all, this is a great initiative. There are so many children who grow up in dysfunctional families, so this is the only home they know,” Stephen said.

As per the social work process, the children are first assessed by qualified social worker before they get admitted to the home.

“As Orlando Children Home, we are happy because the children are happy and we would like to express warm gratitude to Obaratile Christmas Celebration for choosing us.

“We hope they continue with the good work of brining love and smiles to more underprivileged children.”
