Police bust one suspect during operation Skoon Maak in Eldos

Eldos SAPS station commander Brig. Maluleke’s operation Skoon Maak helps clean up crime in Eldos.

The Eldorado Park SAPS Station Commander Brigadier Mkhacani Maluleke, Vispol Commander Colonel Mbambo, Branch Commander Lt. Colonel Zwane, and Support Head Colonel Lebese led a disruptive and intensified operation called “Skoon Maak” on Friday, December 2, 2022, with members of Eldorado Park SAPS from various departments, including the integrated additional deployment of Law enforcement agencies POPS and JMPD, as well as the Community Policing Forum, Youth Desk for two days.

The hotspot areas in all sectors, prioritizing sector 2, including Varke Jard in Extension 4 and Sneeberg Street, B-section flats, Extension 2, were the focus of the operation.

“The motive behind the disruptive and intensified operation was to eradicate all illegal firearms and to prevent criminal activities committed with these firearms, especially murders and attempted murders, thus ensuring a safer and secure festive season,” said Sergeant Roxanne Gibb, Eldorado Park SAPS spokesperson.

She added that the ongoing joint operation, which started at 10:00, arrested ten (10) suspects for a variety of offenses, including drug possession, violating the Second Hand Goods Act, and possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. One of the suspects, a male suspect 32-year-old, was detained for this offense.

“The suspect, who is from Westbury, is also said to be involved in gangsterism and to be wanted in connection with a Sophiatown investigation.

“Due to his reported high danger, the defendant was sent to a different police station for incarceration. He recently appeared in court,” Sgt Gibb explained.

The two day operation resulted in the arrest and detention of 32 people for the different offenses and the seizure of three firearms. All suspects appeared at respective courts recently.
