Motorist crashes into metro officers

The officers were attending a crash scene on the N3 South highway early Sunday when a silver Citroën motor vehicle, allegedly travelling in the emergency lane, collided with the rear of the white JMPD BMW.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) management has wished officers Simphiwe Msimanga and Neo Motseke from the Highway Patrol Unit a speedy recovery.

The officers were attending a crash scene on the N3 South highway, close to London Road in Linbro Park early Sunday.

A silver Citroën motor vehicle, allegedly travelling in the emergency lane, collided with the rear of the white JMPD freeway patrol BMW, which was stationary.

The BMW subsequently collided with a white Kia Rio which was also stationary due to the earlier crash.

Both male officers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Milpark Hospital.

Officer Msimanga sustained head injuries and was admitted to the hospital.

Officer Motseke was discharged from the hospital after observation and treatment.

The male driver of the Citroën also sustained critical injuries.

He was taken to Helen Joseph Hospital and the female passenger from the Citroën sustained serious injuries.

She was taken to Morningside Hospital.

There were no injuries from the Kia, as there was no one in the vehicle at the time of the collision.

A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened at Sandringham SAPS for further investigation.
