12 suspects arrested from Eldorado Park and Westbury

Lieutenant General Elias Mawela commended members of the Anti-Gang Unit and Provincial Tracking Team for the arrests made.

12 suspects were arrested for crimes which include murder and attempted murder in Eldorado Park and Westbury.

Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela commended members of the Anti-Gang Unit and Provincial Tracking Team for the arrests these 12 suspects.

The units also recovered six unlicensed firearms in the last few days. A suspect was arrested on Tuesday, August 30 after a man was shot and killed in Eldorado Park on Saturday, August 27.

It is reported that a group of men were having drinks after a funeral when a Golf 7 with five occupants, stopped next to them and fired shots towards them. One person was fatally wounded. Police are still searching for other suspects.

Furthermore, police arrested a suspect following a shooting incident that occurred in Westbury, Sophiatown on July 22.

The suspect allegedly shot at the victim without saying a word. The victim was taken to the nearest medical care centre for treatment.

The suspects are expected to appear at Lenasia and Johannesburg Magistrates’ Courts in due course, facing charges that include murder, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
