This after Urban News previously reported that the Ndou family of seven suffered a devastating fire and their three room shack went up in flames with all their belongings, in what the family suspects to have been caused by an electrical fault on July 19.

Basetsana Leso from IKO shared that they were touched and decided to come up with a long term solution for the family and give them a permanent place which they could call home once again.

“In recent weeks, we are aware that the community has been a great assistance to the family however we thought for us the most important thing is building a shelter because a family of seven, sharing such a small space is heart breaking especially for the little ones,” she said.

The Ndou family which has been sharing a one room among themselves have been receiving donations from the community and organisations based in Diepkloof as no one in the family is employed.

The pair further explained that the initiative was part of a desire to have a social impact towards championing the change they wanted to see in their area and further give hope to the community.

“While we cannot bring back their memories again nor can we erase the trauma that they have experienced, our mandate as an organisation is to restore hope and importantly want to assure them that that not all is lost, that even despite the loss, there is still hope and that building a house will signify the beginning of a new page,” Oreatlile Motshegwe told Urban News.

Motshegwe shared that money raised from the donation drive will not only go towards the building of the house but hoped that they will be able to purchase household supplies to get the family started out or help the family start a business.

“We were hoping to raise anywhere between R40 000 and above to allow us to either build a two or three room house based on the quotation we have at hand but we are aware that the costs could be higher due to various other costs involved.

“So we are really hoping that people and the business community can join us in giving a new home to this much deserving family,” she concluded.
