Nomgenge started selling clothing from a brown bag before growing to having a pop-up store, to establishing a store in his backyard to now having a flagship store.

He started in a one-room which he separated into two sections, one section for manufacturing the clothing and one section for retail.

When the business expanded, he acquired a container and transformed it into the flagship within six months.

“ND stands for change. When we go up, the community goes up with us. That’s how we started and that’s how we are going to grow,” said Nomgenge.

The young entrepreneur said at first when they were setting up the store people didn’t see it positively and he couldn’t understand why as he was doing something positive in the community.

In his eyes, he was uplifting the community through his work and setting a good example for the next generation.

However, as time went by, he received support and acceptance from the community as people saw the good that he was doing.

The journey with the flagship has not been all rosy. It was an ordinary container that they had to transform completely.

Windows were cut out and put in, the flooring was redone and wiring had to be done so that there is electricity.

They had to do everything from scratch and according to Nomgenge, this is what makes the flagship store even more special.

He further spoke about the struggles he faced such as finances which caused a delay in the launch.

Despite all the hardship they faced in getting the flagship up and running they all worked together with the help they received to make it a success.

Nomgenge has plans to create employment in the community, create a value chain, and empower his team. He is also looking at opening a factory and expanding the brand in the next five years.
