Two males caught in a hijacked vehicle in Eldos

Eldorado Park SAPS makes two arrests after finding the two alleged suspects in possession of a hijacked vehicle as well as an instrument resembling a firearm in Eldorado Park.

On the afternoon of July 12, SAPS members were conducting crime prevention duties when they received information regarding a Toyota Etios that had been hijacked.

According to Sergeant Roxanne Gibb, as a result of following up on the leads provided, the SAPS members proceeded to Elandsberg Street in extension 2, Eldorado Park.

When the SAPS members arrived in the street, they spotted the vehicle that had been reported hijacked. Sergeant Gibb shared that the vehicle was parked in the parking lot at the flats.

One of the two suspects that were arrested.

“The SAPS members thereafter caught the suspects aged 22 and 23 inside the hijacked vehicle, in the act of removing the panels of the vehicle,” said Gibb.

SAPS members proceeded to search the suspects and vehicle, and as a result, recovered a 9mm blank firearm with one round in the magazine.

The suspects were arrested and detained at Eldorado Park SAPS for the charges of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and possession of an instrument resembling a firearm.

“The duo will appear before the respective court during the course of the week.

The exhibits seized were handed in and the firearm will be sent for ballistic analysis which will be used as evidence. Both suspects were profiled to determine whether they can be linked to other cases.

“The case is undergoing further investigation,” added Gibb.

Eldorado Park SAPS Station Commander Brigadier Maluleke condemns crimes such as these and added that he is committed to eradicating illegal firearms within the community.
