Volunteer helps those with head injuries

Nkomo changes the world.

Thobeka Nkomo is a wife and mother of two teenagers who recently completed her PhD in Social Work.

Nkomo has had a successful 10-year career as a social worker for the Department of Social Development and the Department of Health.

In 2013 she applied and was chosen as one of the Vodacom Change the World volunteer’s, to help others reach their full potential through her work.

Nkomo said: “I am currently helping at Headway Gauteng where she manages the Soweto and Alexander branches, training field workers, securing resources, switching to an electronic record keeping system and taking on the role of Therapy Manager.

“The Vodacom Change the World initiative is supporting NPO’s in a unique and sustainable way.

“Through the programme, Vodacom contributes towards the transfer of human capital by allowing professionals to add value and much-needed skills to charities throughout the country.

“She said since she started assisting the centre, they have been able to buy equipment, have awareness campaigns and have training for stuff among other thing.

“This has been a great platform for me to give back to the community and I’m truly grateful for it,” she said.
