According to spokesperson of the JMPD, Xolani Fihla, the incident took place on Saturday, July 2 at about 3am.

JMPD officers and traffic wardens from By-Laws Management Unit were attending two accident scenes on the N12 West between Golden Highway and K43 in Eldorado Park.

Whilst attending to the accident scenes, a Renault Sandero drove at a high speed hitting a 37-year-old female JMPD Traffic Warden, Luleka Sobetshe.

The driver of the Sandero then failed to stop after striking Traffic Warden Sobetshe. Officers on the scene gave chase and managed to apprehend the driver.

Emergency Services were called and unfortunately, Traffic Warden Sobetshe was declared deceased on the scene.

The driver of the Sandero was breathalysed and the reading from the alcometer was 0.69mg/l which is over the legal limit of 0.24mg/l.
