This follows social media posts about a shutdown in protest against high fuel prices.

Fears have been mounting throughout the week about the possibility of unrests and lootings.

Despite this,  public transport has been operating normally since Friday morning, with no road closures reported across Soweto.

Leader of Operation Dudula, Nhlanhla Lux told ENCA this morning that as Soweto residents they are working together with law enforcement to maintain law and order.

“There are communities that are frustrated over electricity and they thought that they could use that agenda to fit in today’s so called national shutdown.

“So we had a lot of trouble last night trying to make them understand that they can’t mix the two because it’s too sensitive,” said Lux.
