This past weekend, the Nhlanhla Tshabalala Foundation kicked off this year’s Warm4Winter Campaign at the Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown.

Through the campaign, 40 elderly residents of Kliptown received donations of blankets and hot water bottles from the foundation and its sponsors.

It is aimed at keeping the elderly warm this winter season and for them to avoid the use of dangerous warming methods such as imbawula and paraffin.

The foundation’s Nhlanhla Tshabalala said last year they had death cases reported in the informal settlement because people struggled to keep themselves warm without electricity. Through the Warm4Winter Campaign, the foundation is making a positive contribution to the often forgotten people of Kliptown, not just the elderly but the children as well.

“We gave out 40 blankets and hot water bottles to the elderly. Initially, our target was 70 but we took down their details with the hope to continue fundraising for them. We also served soup and coffee from our friends at Nescafe,” explained Tshabalala.

As more donations come in, the foundation will make sure to accommodate more residents with essentials throughout this winter season. Tshabalala thanked Mbokodo Building, Blackdot Property Consultants, Nescafe and Aunty Cathy for making the Warm4Winter Campaign possible.

“We would also like to thank all out volunteers especially the two teenage girls, Tshwanelo Mahuma and Palesa Poni,” added Tshabalala. The two teenage girls gave up their Saturday morning and went out to help prepare the donations at the Walter Sisulu Square.

Anyone who wants to contribute to the campaign can get in touch with the foundation on info@ntfkids.org.za or connect via social media @ntfoundation.
