Through adherence HIV positive people can live longer

If HIV anti-retroviral therapy is followed correctly, then infected people can live healthy lives for many years.

If people living with the HIV virus follow the treatment recommendations of their healthcare providers, this disease can be managed.

This is according to Medical Director at AllLife, Dr Avron Urison.

He said this means following treatment, taking the correct dose at the correct time and as prescribed by the healthcare provider.

“The best healthcare outcomes for people living with HIV and who are on medication depends on being adherent to recommended treatment schedules.

“HIV anti-retroviral therapy if correctly followed is the reason infected people can live healthy lives for many years.

“If however the treatment is stopped, the virus multiplies again from hidden pools in the body,” Urison said.

He said in order to avoid adherence problems such as HIV positive people struggling with recommendations made by their healthcare providers, misunderstanding the recommendations or carrying them out incorrectly, it is important to correctly assess people’s knowledge and understanding of the suggested regimen and their belief in it.
