The Portia Modise Foundation has partnered with SPAR to donate sanitary pads in schools as part of its community outreach programme.

The Portia Modise Foundation and Academy is a non-profit organisation which aims to connect the dots in Women’s Football through development, and empowerment.

The Former Banyana Banyana captain has taken it upon herself to preach hygiene and empower girls through life skills, promoting education, hygiene, physical activities and social integration

She has therefore distributed sanitary towels at Tlhatlogang Secondary School in Jabavu where she spoke to the girls about the importance of hygiene, particularly during menstruation.

“As women in the country we continue to face challenges. It’s now upon us to unlock greater resources for the young girls not to ever miss school due to lack of sanitary pads. I am focusing my work and efforts to lending a helping hand by supporting and equipping women with necessary tools ranging from hygiene products, sporting equipment, sporting gear, and conducting motivational talks to inspire the next generation of women,” said Modise.

According to SPAR South Rand Sponsorship Controller, Cornel Steyn, SPAR feels strongly that each girl has a right to an education. This is the reason why they have partnered with the Portia Modise Foundation to distribute sanitary pads to those who need them the most.

This partnership is expected to help keep girls in school and give them an equal opportunity to compete and lead a full life.

“Thank you to everyone who entered the 2021 SPAR Women’s Virtual Challenge and contributed to the SPAR Petal’s project. Your contribution is making a difference in these girls’ lives. Portia Modise’s message is powerful and it is a tool that each of the girls can use to build a bright future. We are honoured to have been part of this community outreach programme,” said Steyn.
