20 addicts admitted to rehab

Dobsonville Shopping Mall's drug and alcohol awareness campaign pays off.

The marketing manager of the Dobsonville Shopping Mall, Sharon Radebe, says the drug and alcohol awareness campaign that was held recently, has paid off.

The mall partnered with the Westview Clinic in a five days awareness event at local high schools a week ago.

People were urged to pledge against drug (nyaope) abuse by signing a pledge register.

Over 1000 pledges were made.

As result of the campaign, Radebe said 20 drug users will be admitted for the rehab programme at clinic in Florida.

These people will be treated free at the clinic.

“We have referred another addict to a rehab centre and we have sponsored him with R10 000 for rehabilitation purposes.

She said ”Our aim is to prevent or to reduce the use of drug and alcohol abuse by young people”.

Radebe said the plan is to work with the clinic on monthly awareness campaigns.

“We thank all the schools that allowed us to run the campaign in their learning environments and the community for pledging,” she said.
