The march which kicked off at the Diepkloof Extreme Park on Immink Drive was to also address other issues affecting Soweto residents such as the electricity crisis.

The movement once again visited a street called Baghdad in Diepkloof Zone 6 to send a strong message to those who are committing crime. Baghdad is alleged to be notorious for drug dealings and prostitution.

This time around, the march was extended to Motswaledi Informal Settlement where they alleged that there are many RDP houses which are currently occupied by undocumented foreign nationals.

Bara Taxi Rank was once again partially spotless, it seemed foreign nationals who usually trade there, had received some sort of warning.

Operation Dudula gained prominence on June 16 last year which many described as the 2021 version of the Soweto Uprising, where they had a similar mass march in Diepkloof.

Despite being criticised and accused of being xenophobic, members of the movement say they are in a mission to reclaim their country’s economy and fight for South Africans to be prioritised when it comes to employment, housing allocations, business opportunities etc.

The Sunday’s event was called the Soweto multi-branch revival launch, where all Soweto based Dudula branches were launched and new members were registered. The march was monitored by a strong police contingent from both SAPS and the JMPD.
