Finances causes delay in Hlabangwane’s murder case
Case postponed to December 3.
26-year-old Flavio Hlabangwane made a brief appearance at the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, November 30. The accused is facing charges of murder and contravention of the inquest act after human body parts were discovered in his fridge.

During the sitting, the lawyer of the accused told the court that he is not able to proceed with the matter as he has not yet been paid and that the accused’s family has indicated that they currently do not have funds but believe will be sorted by Friday.
This then led to the matter being postponed to Friday, December 3. This is for the accused’s lawyer to take instructions from his client and also for the accused to sort out his financial issues.
If the financial issues are sorted then the court will proceed on Friday and the application for the accused to be admitted into a mental institution will go ahead.
The state is not opposing the application of the accused to be assessed for a mental evaluation.
Speaking about the development of the case, Sihle Sibisi, the founder of the Kwanele foundation said, “We are waiting for Friday to see what happens and also see that justice does prevail. I have been in contact with the victim’s family especially the aunts and they are devastated as to how is it possible that he killed their child and is now demanding to go for a mental evaluation.”
The deceased’s family is currently receiving psychological assistance from the Kwanele foundation.
Regarding DNA tests conducted on the body remains, NPA’s Phindi Mjonondwane said, “The DNA tests were conducted and the results are not yet back therefore the state has not yet concluded the identity of the deceased.”
