Eldorado Park SAPS and stakeholders all geared up for 16 days of activism

The Eldorado Park SAPS and Stakeholders have joined forces in the fight against crime and Gender Based Violence (GBV).

Constable Roxanne Gibb from Eldorado Park SAPS reminded us of the words of president, Cyril Ramaphosa when he indicated that GBV is the second pandemic that we are currently faced with. Gibb added that the abuse against women and children are considered unacceptable and a zero-tolerance stance has been adapted by the Eldorado Park SAPS and Stakeholders, and it is in this regard that they vow to put an end to GBV.

The Eldorado Park SAPS and Stakeholders have brainstormed and planned interventions aimed at putting an end to the ‘second pandemic’ as it is part of their 16 Days of Activism against GBV.

“We also call upon each and every citizen to join forces with us, as we believe that each person is capable of influencing a positive change and outcome,” said Gibb.

On November 20 the Eldorado Park SAPS and Community Stakeholders adapted the “We are stronger” concept at the Caitlin Domain Foundation. The National Prosecuting Authority, on Monday November 22 gave the Eldorado Park SAPS Victim Empowerment Centre a “face-lift”, by painting the entire centre. On Wednesday, November 24, the Gender Based Violence Brigades and SANCA conducted the “KeMoja” awareness program which entailed on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

On Thursday, November 25, the Eldorado Park SAPS, Eldorado Park Crisis Centre and the Victim Empowerment Centre formed a human chain along the Main Road, to create awareness around GBV.

On November 28, it was the Lonwabo Organisation hosting an EKA fitness hike and chill at Kliprivier Nature Reserve. At the time of publishing the following events had not yet taken place, however, Gibb shared that it was planned that November 30, they will contact a door-to-door campaign in Slovo Park for a dialogue with men and young boys. December 1 marks World Aids Day and they will be distributing pamphlets and condoms as well as raising awareness on Aids along Turf and Goud Street in Eldorado Park.

The PUSH Centre will simultaneously conduct awareness on World Aids Day at 10am at the Extension one PUSH offices in Eldorado Park.

On Friday, December 3 the Eldorado Park SAPS, Stakeholders in conjunction with the City of Johannesburg will participate in a dialogue addressing substance abuse linked to the causes of GBV at the Nespro Centre situated at the Methodist Church in Kammagas Street Extension 2 from 10am to 12pm.

On December 4 at 6pm the ACT organization will be live and streaming online the “Straight outta Africa”, as well as on Sunday, December 5 at 6pm.

The Eldorado Park SAPS and Stakeholders will once again gather at the Eldorado Park SAPS at 09h00 and thereafter proceed to conduct a “Blitz” door to door address.

Lastly, on December 8 at 10am all will gather at the Don Mateman Hall for a GBV workshop.

“All are encouraged to participate and form part of the change we want to see. Enough is enough. No to Gender Based Violence,” concluded Gibb.
