150 to 200 matrics received full outfits for their Matric Banquets

Two organisations in Eldorado Park have been accepting donated dresses, suits, shoes and accessories over the past few months in order to assist the matric learners who are in need of outfits for their banquets.

The collaboration between Sisterhood and Lady in Pink Foundation brought together a successful Matric Dance Drive which was hosted at Eldomaine High School on November 13.

Both organisations have been involved with youth empower and upliftment within Eldorado Park. After seeing the effect COVID has had on many households, they wanted to make this year’s matric farewells as memorable as possible for the young men and woman of the local schools. The team shared that they wanted to remind the learners how special they are and how proud they should be of having reached this milestone.

“Having made it to matric with all life’s challenges is something that we feel needs to be celebrated and knowing that so many of our community matriculants do not attend this celebration because they are disadvantaged just seemed unfair. We as a joined team wanted to be the change these matriculants needed.

“Our hope for this drive and after is to inspire as many young boys and girl as we possibly can to be the best they can be and to never let circumstances determine where life takes them. We also hope to make this drive an annual initiative that will only grow from strength to strength,” said Alicia Solomons from Sisterhood.

Saturday’s event hosted about 150 to 200 matric learners from all schools from the community. The learners had the opportunity to pick out their own full outfits with a parent.

“We would also like to thank Eldomaine High School, the principal Mr Pienaar and the amazing staff for allowing us to use their school for this event. They were amazing in assisting us with the setup, snack and the take down. Thanks to every donor and sponsor for the support and items you blessed our event with, it was greatly appreciated. And lastly thanks to all the Media, EldosFM and local businesses who helped us make this day a success,” concluded Solomons.

If anyone is still in need of assistance in anyway regarding their Matric Banquet, you can contact Alicia Solomons from Sisterhood on 063 393 3301 or Christopher Booysen from Lady in Pink on 073 522 7572 as they have plenty of items left to help.
