#IMadeMyMark: Hostel dwellers show political tolerance on Election Day

Voting continues with no disruptions in Soweto.

IFP Youth Brigade National Secretary, Mlungisi Mabaso has urged young people to go to their voting stations to exercise their democratic rights through the ballots.

Mabaso was speaking at Dube Hostel where he cast his vote earlier today.

“Today we are given an opportunity to take out those leader we feel are not doing enough to address our services delivery challenges. Today is not about political parties but it’s about society and democracy,” said Mabaso urging residents to use their votes to elect leaders who care.

There was high police visibility at Dube Hostel which is notorious for violent protests.

Various political parties including the ANC, NFP and IFP had set up stands outside the voting station, playing music to encourage residents to come out and vote.

Mabaso also commended hostel dwellers for displaying political tolerance and political maturity.

“Our democracy has now matured in a way that we tolerate each other. As you can see here, we have people from different political parties sharing the same space and enjoying themselves. That is what we are encouraging,” said Mabaso.

Voting continues across Soweto and no incidents of disruption have been reported.
