“Imagine a world where all forests and national parks are protected. Instead of people paying a lot of money for illegally poached animals, they pay to educate children so they can learn about wildlife and how to protect it. A world where we plant trees often and recycle instead of throwing plastic material in the ocean. That is the world I want to live in and the world future generations deserve to see,” reads part of Mazibuko’s essay.

The young bright star said she was so excited when she was announced as the winner. “My mother helped write the essay .She helped me with research because I didn’t really know how to write an essay, so we searched for videos online which explained everything,” said Mazibuko.

The school is equally excited about the win and Mazibuko’s teacher said it will encourage learners at the school to read more and be eager to achieve more in life. The USAID VukaNow #RestoreOurEarth Competition was in line with Earth Day 2021 theme which focuses on natural processes, emerging green technologies, and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystems.
