Pimville family proud as Nqobie shines on Idols

While the rest of the country is still in awe of Nqobie’s talent, for her family, it is nothing new.

The Linda family in Pimville has expressed their excitement in watching one of their own shine on Idols South Africa (SA) Season 17. 28-year-old Nqobisile Linda from Pimville, Soweto has made her community proud by making it to the SA Idols Top 10 stage of the singing competition. Graceful and poised, the songstress impressed with her strong stage presence, undeniable talent, and distinct vocals, plummeting her to a fan favourite.

According to her family, Nqobie has been singing her whole life. She sang for her church choir and had an unsuccessful try at Idols. She also briefly served as Nothende’s backup vocalist. Not seeing much progress and struggling with mental health, she threw in the towel in 2013 and focused fully on her job. While she had given up her music career, she could not ignore her passion for singing. She was encouraged by her younger sister, to audition for Idols season 17.

“It was Nonhlanhla, her sister who encouraged her, seeing that she still had a deep love for this. We are proud of her, I was in tears when she made it into the top 16. Every time I see her on stage I get emotional and her Gogo gets emotional, then we all start crying. We thank God that she has finally gotten that opportunity to show the world her talent,” her mother, Ntombizodwa Linda told Soweto Urban.

While the rest of the country is still in awe of Nqobie’s talent, to her family, it is nothing new.

“She was always a great singer. She was even moved to the main choir at church while she was very young. We would dress her up in a way that she did not look out of place or too young. This is something she has always wanted to do and now she has the stage to do it. Even while singing at church, you could always tell she was a bit different, that her talent was extraordinary. We want her to know that we are fully behind her,” she added.

The Linda family are not the only ones proud to see Nqobie on the Idols stage. The community of Pimville and Soweto at large have thrown their weight behind the songstress. “The support has been great. People all over Soweto have been asking us to send their good wishes to her and forward their messages. She has a home in White City as well so the support from there has also been great. We want to thank Soweto and let them know that she appreciates all the support,” Ntombizodwa said.
